Football Follies 2022: NCAA Week 12

Rivalries big and bigger as the season matures.

For some reason we’re always a bit suspicious of high rankings for Oregon, but we admit, the loss to Washington last week was unexpected.  Let the “what ifs?” now proliferate, for the PAC 12 and yea, even unto the C#@Pflugenheimer.

For some other reason (probably; though in a metaphysical sense who knows), we had major computer problems this past weekend, and had no means of chiming in with the usual facts & insights as football did its roll.  It appears that running a diagnostic and system clean-up has put the evil boxes back on the path of righteousness.

We can’t proceed with this week’s Follies without mentioning the heartbreaking loss suffered by the Virginia Cavaliers on Sunday night in the shooting of a team charter bus. Continue reading “Football Follies 2022: NCAA Week 12”

Football Follies 2022: NCAA Week 7; The Rebuilding Continues

The slog sets in.

Last week, we have to say, was a tough week for much of the Inner Circle. We’re grateful that Oklahoma State, Toledo, TCU, and Wyoming bagged us up a few Ws, and of course a game featuring two Inner Circle teams (Tulsa and Navy) can’t be a total loss.  (We just wish it hadn’t been by so dang much.  Tulsa showed a lot better – a lot better – against two ranked teams this season, Ole Miss and Cincinnati.  C’mon, ‘Cane.  You’ve defended the option before.)

At any rate, Baylor is out whupping up on West Virginia, pride of the Big 12, as we speak, and it’s Thursday (at this writing) and in two days it’s Saturday, and it’s time to move on.  We get some juicy Inner Circle action Friday night too, so watch for it below.  (WVU came back in a rousing squeaker to top Baylor 43-40.)

We’re also admitting a new member to the Inner Circle: Continue reading “Football Follies 2022: NCAA Week 7; The Rebuilding Continues”

Football Follies: Livid for LVI

The superest.

There’s a Super Bowl today. We’ve been remiss here at your TOC Football Commentary Service in not getting something up sooner — and this post isn’t going to be the usual thermonuclear warhead.  More like some nice little .22 shot.

Basically, thoughts. Bring ’em if you got ’em.  We’re doing well to remember it’s the Rams and the Bengals.

We’re standing with the fine people of Inglewood, California, however, in saying “Feh” to that (Not) Wonder of the World SoFi Stadium.  We hear the buzz on it is SoNot, although not because it’s a bad stadium or anything. Continue reading “Football Follies: Livid for LVI”

Football Follies 2021: NCAA – Booger goes ballistic

Booger’s biggest week.

Booger 2: The Revenge is always Booger’s biggest week, and this year the New Year’s Eve games are on Friday.  That’s a whole lotta bowl if we take the entire NCAA week in one gulp.  So this time around we’re going to break it up and knock it off on Thursday (30 December), carrying the CFBP$+ playoffs and other sacred New Year’s Eve games over to next week’s tote.

That still gives us 16 juicy bowls to preview, ranging from the Boogerest to Better.  Game notes for our Inner Circle this week include Tulsa and Wyoming:  TU carried the day 30-17 in the Myrtle Beach Bowl, after an exciting first two minutes in which each team scored a TD.  The Golden H got through the whole game without turning over the ball.  We’re so proud!

On Tuesday, after an early-game struggle, Wyoming downed Kent State Continue reading “Football Follies 2021: NCAA – Booger goes ballistic”
