Barry Rubin Appearing in Los Angeles

For TOC readers in the LA area, a treat is in store next week.  Children of Jewish Holocaust Survivors is sponsoring a lecture by Dr. Barry Rubin on Thursday, 10 March at 7:00 PM at the Luxe Hotel on Sunset Blvd.

Barry Rubin is the director of the Global Research in International Affairs Center (GLORIA) in Herzliya, Israel. His insightful blog is a resource I use frequently, along with numerous other news and opinion writers great and small. Dr. Rubin has a tremendous background in Middle Eastern affairs and the Arab world.

The evening with him promises to be rewarding. The event is entitled “Eyes Wide Shut: Unbundling the Middle East.”  Particulars and a registration form can be accessed by clicking on the event image on the right-hand of the screen. (Scroll down.) See you there!

  1. ooowww that Barry Rubin is some treat. what a steamin hunk. will there be snapshots?

    • Barry Rubin is one of the most informed commentators regarding the threat of Islam to the West, extant today. Your derision is a reflection of your ignorance or bias, not an accurate assessment of Rubin’s veracity.

      • Rubin’s info and Rubin’s veracity are distinct, Geoffrey.

He’s prone to taking info that says that 10% of a population have heard somebody advocate violence and directly from that advancing the idea that a majority are sympathetic to violence.

But he looks very adorable in photos.

        • The most populous nation in the M.E. is Egypt. In a recent poll, 84% approve of the death penalty for apostasy. That statistic alone compellingly disproves your assertion that it is only 10% who are sympathetic to violence.

The reason you doubt Rubin’s veracity, as you just revealed is that you can’t handle the truth, for doing so would place you in the position of either fighting (flight, in a world of WMD is increasingly less an option) or accepting dhimmitude.

Frogs not being know for aggressive self-defense, leads me to speculate that, in your case fuster, when push comes to shove, you’ll reluctantly accept dhimmitude as the lesser of two evils.

Which sadly and speaking frankly, makes you unworthy of the freedom previous generations sacrificed so much to bequeath to you.

“War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse.  A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing that is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.” — John Stuart Mill

“People sleep peaceably in their beds at night, only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.” George Orwell

Since 9/11 we’ve all had plenty of time to pull the blinders of wishful thinking off our eyes, anyone over the age of 18, who still believes that its all a ‘misunderstanding’ or the result of a small minority are being purposely obtuse.

Unfortunately for you, appeasement masquerading as obtuseness won’t save you from facing the ‘alligator’ of Islam. Tragically, we’re all in this together and millions are going to die because of the left’s machinations and the millions of liberal ‘useful idiots’ such as yourself. Despicably, you’ll never face the truth of your own culpability in the coming events, no more than 1930’s pacifists faced their culpability in appeasing Hitler until it was too late. When those pacifists plaintively complained “Who could have known he was such a monster?” it was an evasion, for many warned of Hitler, just as many are warning of Islam today. “None are so blind, as he who will not see.

          • Geoffrey, I’m not all that passive.

and you misunderstood what I was saying.

your stats about Egypt isn’t the issue.

Rubin took a stat saying that 10% of people somewhere very far from Egypt had listened to sermons justifying violence and from there concluded that the majority of their co-religionists living in this country VERY FAR from Egypt were sympathetic to violence.

nothing to do with Egypt, my friend.

just very, very bad argumentation. twist the facts to fit the desired outcome.

            • Rubin’s argumentation may well be sloppy, I’m unfamiliar with the particular case you cite. That said, the majority of Muslims condone terrorist violence, they just won’t publicly admit it. That’s because you can’t be a devout Muslim and not condone violence.

In this country, how many Muslims actually speak out against the atrocities committed in their ‘religion of peace’s’ name?

The deafening silence of all but a very few is confirmation of the average Muslim condoning the violence because they know the Quran , etc. is on the side of the ‘radicals’…

I hope you’re not that passive fuster and you will certainly have the opportunity to prove it. Better to die on your feet a man, than pretend to live, while on your knees, as a slave.

              • Geoffrey, I’m with you! As for Fuster, I do believe HIS aim is to obfuscate – which he usually does without breaking a sweat (on the other hand, maybe he DOES “break a sweat” and, indeed, may work very hard to sound as “clever” – and inscrutable – as possible). He refers to people and a country “VERY FAR from Egypt” who are “sympathetic to violence.” I was trying to figure out exactly who & which country he meant, but am stymied ’cause Israel is NOT “very far” from Egypt. Any ideas?

  2. I haven’t seen a picture of Barry Rubin, but I’m on the CJHS mailing list. so this sounds very good – and it comes with the endorsement of OptiCon as well! Fuster simply can’t control his urge to respond in a catty, inappropriate way (but when has he EVER been “appropriate?” Lol…). I imagine he gets off on just trolling around this (and no doubt other serious) site(s). OTOH, he’s probably just using the same style he uses on those lavendar sites…

  3. Joy, in plain Americanese, Rubin was talking about ….. America.

    • Thanks, Fuster, I do best in plain English. And now to discover just who those 10 percent “co-religionists” might be… Just guessing here, but, by chance, are they muzzies? No matter – I’ve lost the original thread of your argument anyway.

      • next time, Joy, tie the thread around a wrist and you’ll be likely to find your way back without breaking a sweat.

        • Sod off, Fuster – you are without a doubt one of the most annoying posters I’ve ever encountered. Too bad OptiCon is so tolerant (to what end? you add zero to the discussion); you wouldn’t last 10 seconds on barenakedislam! Wonder if you troll other sites with whom you are in obvious disagreement basically just to be annoying and add that precious last word, no matter the subject at hand. I guess there’s no explaining what gives some perverts their thrills & spills…

          • Sod off???????????

gadzooks Joy, are you an Englisher type personage??????

  4. but seriously, folks.. . i stopped back to ask if there’s gonna be a write-up of Rubin’s presentation.
